Lumen Nature Prints and Painting

The beautiful sunny weather in Honiton yesterday was perfect for a nature walk and creating lumen prints 🙂

Using just sunlight, the lumen prints were made by exposing leaves, twigs, grasses and flowers onto black and white photography paper for just a few minutes. A quick dip in fixer and the images are set.

The Imaginary Library

And we’re off! I’ve started planning in earnest for my latest project “The Imaginary Library”. It’s a children’s show, and will feature puppetry, projection mapped animation and a live score. I’ve managed to get a crack team together so it’s all quite exciting 🙂

Concept drawings below – now for the Arts Council application. Chocks away!

Interactive Digital Media at Magic Carpet

An art-technology mashup!

First, the guys drew a jungle-forest backgound, and then, separately, created some fierce  animal characters which we cut out and animated against a green screen.

Then, through the magic of digital media, we overlayed the animation on the background, and projected the whole thing onto a screen and, as you can see,! had a lot of fun interacting with our scary creations!

Plus some pics of an interactive shadow puppet and projection workshop I ran with the same group at the end of 2018, but didn’t get time to post..

The guys made drawings of scenes from the Nativity story and black card shadow puppet characters, then I projected their drawings and they retold the story with their puppets on the big screen. We also made animal hats so participants could interact with the screen as a shadow puppet themselves. This was all done in a day – interactive digital media can create magical experiences for people.

Black and White Workshop – Magic Carpet Honiton

Today we explored “black and white” (and a bit of colour!). Everyone got into the idea, from black and white animals to old silent movie stars, and made some beautiful large-scale charcoal and chalk drawings. In the afternoon we had a look at op-art and made some zebras on zebra crossings (which made our eyes go funny …)

Workshop Photos 2017-18

Lots of lovely pictures from the last year-eighteen months or so 🙂 Thanks everyone!

Bishopsteignton Comics Club end of term pdf

So to kick off 2019 here’s the pdf from last term’s Comics Club at Bishopsteignton Primary (see below).

It’s the last for a while, as Comics Club will now morph into Creative Club, which will feature a wider range of creative activities including puppets, drawing and illustration, cameraless photography, kites, and clay modelmaking 🙂
