Animation & Art Workshops, Children's Picture Books and Illustration
School’s out so it’s time once again for the Summer Reading Challenge! 🙂 This year the theme is “mischief makers” (as in Dennis the menace and Beryl the Peril), so Teignmouth Library have asked me to run a couple of comics workshops to celebrate.

I won’t be running very many workshops over the hols as i’m busy with other things, but here’s a list of very creative art activities for kids from the Book Trust called “Staring Into Space”. You can download them by clicking on the link below, have fun!!
Everyone had a lovely time making houses, trees, telephone boxes and ice cream vans for the “story scene” we made last Thursday. After building our version of what eventually looked like Torquay (!!) we made some people and cats and created stories around it.
The Comics Club at Bishopsteignton Primarycame to an end a couple of weeks ago, so I’ve made up a pdf of most of the comics the kids made and you can download it here! comics club
I was very chuffed when Pram asked me to make an animation for a track from their new LP Across the Meridian. I took some pictures while making, so here they are below…
The whole process from a-z was great fun, even when everything fell over :), and it’s a brilliant track too.

I had a blast making this animation for Shimmer and Disappear from Pram’s upcoming LP Across the Meridian 🙂 Will post “making of” pics soon.
I’ve got fourteen keen-as-mustard comic artists this term, and they are already coming up with some wonderful ideas, including a graphic novel and a very exciting joint project featuring a story told from three different points of view. This is a degree of sophistication I came across in works of authors and filmmakers only when I went to university, so I was a bit blown away when they announced what they were going to do. In fairness all three are super-creative, bright kids – am very excited to see how this works out.
This was a lot of fun – a projection/animation/digital music drop-in workshop for Daisi’s “Machina” project at the Phoenix in Exeter. Participants made a cutout musician character, attached it to the projected background and then, using Bare Conductive technology, gave it a sound – which could be played just by touching the character (gasp!)
It worked brilliantly as a fully interactive workshop, and musician Rachel Thame and I are definitely going to roll this out more widely. Get in touch for more information. 🙂
The guys have been very busy making all kinds of props for their production of Alice in Wonderland recently. They really are lovely and I think it’s going to look very special when they perform on May 17th in Honiton. Here are a few of the puppets and masks we made last week…
We’re snowed in again here at Small World Towers so I’m afraid I’ve had to cancel tonight’s Club, sorry! We’ll be back again next Monday. My cat ventured out briefly this morning… he’s now back on his bed 🙂
