“Hotel Day-Glo” – Animation Workshop at The Egg

Hello Bath-type-super-talented-animation-peeps! It’s quite hard to make an animation in a day, but you did it. As (wise) Nancy said “It’s not exactly Agatha Christie, is it?”, but then she didn’t do it all from scratch in a day!! Well done everyone, and thanks for being a lovely bunch of people to work with!

Here’s the edited version with sound and some effects.. all done in iMovie on a Mac (you could use Windows MovieMaker if you’re working on a PC) with free backing track  downloaded from partnersinrhyme.com.

Knowle West Media Centre Summer School

I was really pleased to be offered the chance to go and work with Knowle West Media Centre during August on their Summer Programme, a really exciting project which offered animation, graffiti, photography, digital music-making, podcasting and djing to local kids who otherwise wouldn’t have access to such high-quality creative digital media activities, they were all great to work with and some of the work they produced was fantastic.

We were doing mainly 3D stop-motion in my workshops, below is a gallery featuring some of the great characters they designed, made and animated. (Films will be posted as soon as I get them from KWMC!)

“The Mean Brain”

The Mean Brain

There have been a few good things going on in Small World over the summer, and this was one of them, “The Mean Brain” an animation by Bene (age 8 now, but 7 when he made it) which he made with me over a few weeks. It’s all his concept, story and making. He then went on to work with musician Algy Behrens and with Algy’s help has added a brilliant soundtrack. Here’s the final finished fantastic film:

Singing Doctors Postcards

This has been lots of fun to work on! I was asked by Welsh National Opera MAX (WNO outreach and education) to draw some illustrations for their “Singing Doctors” project. Nine singers, dressed as “doctors” of varying types will be visiting hospitals around Wrexham and singing to patients – to help their recovery! It’s a fantastic project and I’ve loved being involved in illustrating these cards. The postcards will be handed out to patients in the hospital.

Appledore 2012 – Around the World in 80 Ways!

OK, here it is, the edited version plus soundtrack and the pics I took of you all against the green screen! Apologies to Arnya though, your photo was wonky and blurred and there was only one! So sorry…

Anyway, I hope you all enjoy the final animation, you were all fab to work with and hope to see you in Appledore again next year!

Bunt!

I’ve recently finished painting a giant wooden piece of bunting for Drawn in Bristol’s “Bunt” show, which is being held outdoors around Brizzle’s Harbourside area 9th-17th June. It’s part of the Big Green Week here and should look really pretty when all the pieces (about 100 bunts) are hung together. This is it as a work in progress (one damselfly left to paint).. I chose to paint damselflies because of my dad’s uncontrollable delight every year when the larvae hatched from his back garden pond and it swarmed with these beautiful creatures…
