Small World has wide experience of delivering after-school and holiday art and animation clubs, and ran activities in the Handsworth area of Birmingham for over two years for CEDF, an educational charity based there.
I use a wide variety of materials in the workshops ranging from pencil, paint and paper to recycled card, plastic and textiles, modroc, old computer parts, wire, cable… even fruit and vegetables. The idea is to use both everyday and more unusual materials as creatively as possible.
Workshops can be run as a one-off event, or part of a series for as many days or weeks as you need.
Activities include:
• Stop-frame 2D and 3D animation (think Noggin the Nog – 2D, Wallace and Grommit – 3D). Click here for examples of animations
• Drawing – using anything from pencils, chalk and biro to wax, glue and sticks
• Modelmaking
• Puppet-making
• Kite-making
• Painting and printing
• Collage
• Jewellery-making
• Sculpture
• Large-scale collaborative murals
The clubs I ran in Handsworth were very successful with up to 20 children attending each session and covered a wide range of making activities from commemorative Barack Obama paper plates to Mr and Mrs Potato Heads to Beaches in a Box! All sessions are ‘modelled’ in that I provide an example of what the children will be making in the session, plus templates for younger or less confident children to help them make something they’ll be proud of.
Small World is DBS checked and has Public Liability Insurance for £5m.
